Program Information

The basic training program for first time marathoners is six months. It is broken up into three (3) eight-week courses: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced. These classes are offered through the Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks, but more information can be obtained independently by contacting the program director, Don Grose.

People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate, especially adolescents. This program is designed to empower those who have never even thought about running a marathon. It also welcomes experienced runners who would like the support and camaraderie of a running group.

The training is predicated on the Galloway Method developed by world-class author and runner, Jeff Galloway. It promotes an injury-free system of training that focuses on running as a lifelong activity that shapes and expands our potential. The program also promotes a natural, minimalist style of running that encourages harmony within one’s body and with the environment. Most of the runs take place on the various beautiful trails of Sonoma County.
