The Advanced class (Weeks 17-24) will prepare runners for the marathon itself. It’s the final phase of training and will hone the skills and endurance needed to go 26.2 miles. The long runs will increase and break through “the wall” by stretching out the distance from 16-18 miles to 24-26 miles.

Runners will also, during this phase, incorporate visualization, peace of mind, relaxation techniques and running strategies that will develop the mental process of running long distance. The emphasis is on finishing the race, not the time in which it takes to achieve it.
